George Dickson
Education Student
Born and raised in the NSW outback town of Bourke, Muruwari man George was school captain of Bourke Public School before moving to Sydney to attend prestigious St Joseph’s College on a scholarship program. George admits leaving his family was the hardest thing he’d ever had to do, but going to Sydney gave him the opportunity to experience city life and all its benefits: and for a cricket fan like George, that included matches at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Graduating from high school, George decided he wanted to give back to the rural community and chose to study at university to become a teacher. George will head back to the bush with a Bachelor of Education (Primary) so other children don’t have to leave their families to get an education. He also hopes to be an inspiration to Indigenous children.
